Over the last two years, Seattle-area independent schools have developed an event for families of color that’s designed to enhance community and connection across area schools. I’ll share our story of how it got started (while eating salad at a conference) and the strategic ways in which we designed a program that’s now operating without involvement by the initial leadership team. I’ll share practical lessons I learned along the way and support participants to consider how they can mobilize in their own communities. For participants interested in creating their own initiatives, I’ll lead a facilitated exercise to consider initial questions, identify effective partners, and design a meaningful event.
