Amy Argenal, Courtney Rein, and James King will share their intentions and experiences in teaching multidisciplinary courses that seek to amplify unheard voices and inspire students to enact change. Global Migrations and Voices of Incarceration are two high school elective classes that rest on three elements: deep engagement with a current political issue, experiential learning, and deep partnerships with community organizations. The co-presenters, who have roots in the policies, practices, and lived experience of their social issue, will engage participants in activities and discussions that help examine how we can teach strong disciplinary skills that aim to serve the community organizations on the front lines.
